Neuromyths in education

Today I'm talking about: “Neuromyths in education”. Why this topic?, because I believe that education is the most important process in our life and believe that educational processes can get better If we put attention to evidence of neuroscience research.

Now, I will be talking about neuromyths. For many years, myths about the brain, have persisted in schools and colleges and often have been used to justicate ineffective approaches to teaching and learning. This brings as consequence that many times learning and teaching interventions have not direct evidence about efficiency.

For example: many teachers and students believed that exist differences in hemispheric dominance (left brain or right brain) and this, can help to explain individual differences amongst learners. But this is incorrect, we have no evidence about this, we know that the brain works as a whole. In this regard, educational intervention focused on develop left brain or right brain skills, make no sense.

Other disseminated neuromyths it´s connected with learning style. Usually people thinks that students learning better if they perceive the information by particular sense. This gave birth to auditive, visual or kinesthetic student. But, just as in the previous example, we have not evidence about this.

I believe that educational processes can get better if we put attention on the evidence and we design  educational interventions based on it. .

Which place would like to visit?

I have never left the country, but If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to Italy!

 Why Italy? because Italian culture have something special, something magical.

I interested in their architecture, it combines modern and historic form, living together side by  side. I really would love visit The Coliseum or Sant´Angelo Castle, because I enjoy meeting historical monument.
 Other attraction is their food, I love pizza and Italian pastry!. These are all good reasons for visit Italy.

The cities I would like to visit are: Rome, Venetia, and Florencia. I would like visit Rome for
their architecture and history. I want to visit Venetia to see their rivers and Florencia to meet
“Catedral Santa Maria del Fiore”, I believe it’s the most beautiful cathedral in the world.
 And you, wich place would like to visit?. 

I enjoyed studying this semester:

My favorite subject this semester was “Psicología Jurídica”.  We discuss in class about role of Forensic Psychologist and also its importance. But ¿What´s Forensic Psychology? This area combines Justice System and Psychological elements to understand criminal behavior and her consequences in justice system.

We learn that the practice of forensic psychology, and perhaps the most frequent duty of forensic psychologists, is the psychological assessment of individuals who are involved, in one way or another, with the legal system. 

In the class visit us expert in different field and works related to forensic psychology, this allowed learn about psychologist forensic work.

Through the semester saw concepts like “Criminology theory”, “Victimology theory”, “Violence theory”, the origins of Forensic Psychologist and the many ways to intervene in conflictive case like sexual assault.

I'm interested in this field, I think that this is very important to understand different legal process and her relationship with Psychology. And I make me feel like an episode of Criminal Minds!.

Travel, Culture, and learn English

Visit other country is a god idea for learning English? My answer is yes.
Why?
Because travel us allow knowing a lot of different things, Furthermore learn grammatical and phonetics rules, travel give us the possibility to learn the foreign culture and society.

Why is all of this important? Because to be able to talk English is very important know the culture of peoples to speak the language. This means know the idioms, habits, customs, traditions, etc.

All of these things can affect the communication between us and foreign people, for example: if you know the right way forward to speak, but you don’t know abbreviations that use the culture, probably you will can´t communicate with the other person.  This happen whit a non-standard words like: Nigga, lol, 2day, omg, wtf, etc.

For this reason is important live in the language culture that you want learn. Now you know what you need, you need travel and discover other culture for learning English.

I don’t know who took this photograph, but I really like.  The picture shows old Buddhist temple Ta Prohm in Cambodia.  The religious temple located in Angkor, the old capital City of Khmer Empire, a powerful culture which flourished from approximately in 15^th century’s .Ta Prohm is a one of most important temples in the country, and the main characteristic is their beautiful architecture in the middle of the jungle.

I don’t know when it was taken, but the temples was re-discovery in the began early 21st century, probably the picture was taken in same century. 

I like this picture for three reasons: first I really like the architecture of temple, the details and colors. This type of architecture was called “Bayon style”.  Secondly I like the power of the nature, for example I like how tree and jungle take possession of the place. Finally I like the person in the photograph probably a Buddhist monk.

In summary ,I believe that is a beautiful  combination  between human civilization and nature.

About technology

The technology is part of our life, like it or not, this is our reality. But the technology makes our life easy or hard? I considered that technology make our life easier.

In this sense my favorite piece of technology is a Ipad mini, but ¿what is a ipad mini?.  Is a line of mini tablet devolped by apple, their main feature is a little size.

I buy ipad two years ago, and now I used for studding, reading, and listening a lot of interesting things.  I always carry with me, I use in my house and university.

I like ipad mini because is powerful and small tablet, this allows me to work in my homework and to studding in the bus, for example.

My life without ipad mini remaining unchanged,  ipad mini make my life easier but it doesn’t change my life. 

About my career

I love my career, but why choose this career?.
I remember when I´m 18 years-old I wanted to study psychology because I considered that was a beautiful career that allows to understand the human behavior.  Since that time I was interested in knowing and understanding the human behavior, study psychology was an opportunity to learning about this.

But I liked other careers too, I thought study philosophy, history and biology, since forever I liked critical and reflexive fields of knowledge. I was interested in this field but I wanted to help and knowing other peoples…So I chose study psychology.

I´m really happy in the career, I have met many people and I have learned a lot things about educational and clinical psychology.  In the future I would like be a clinical psychologist and I hope to continue learning about the human experience.

"Gay marriage"

Hello people! the topic today is: "Gay marriage".

 This is a polemic topic in the world, many countries has been legalized homosexual marriage. In Chile gay marriage not exist, because Catholic Church, conservative parties and other political actors radically opposed of this idea.

 In 2014 a group of senators of different political sector together with MOVILH proposed a law project to allow same-sex marriage and adoption to Congress, but this idea was rejected. But not everything is fall, in 2015 has approved the law "Civilian union" this law allowsregulate relations between same-sex couples.

I hope that in the future exists in Chile the possibility of gay marriage, but that does not happen until must keep fighting to establish that right as a relevant law on the political agenda.

Hello people! My name is Andrés Beltrán and my friends call me Andrés or Amadeus, I was born on 19th December in 1992, I´m 23 years-old, I´m from Chile a little South America country. Actually, I'm living with my girlfriend in Santiago.

I have one brother her name is Sebastian, he´s 28 years old and studied “Ingeniera civil en informatica”. I don’t live with my brother but we have closed relationship.

When i was a child lived in Iquique and La Serena, in 2008 come back Santiago and in 2010 I graduated from school. Actually I´m study Psychology at Universidad de Chile, I like my carrier because is a beautiful profession that allows help people.

 I like many things, I´m enjoy reading great authors like Borges or Cortázar. Also I like reading comic-book. I like practice outdoor sport like trekking, camping and running. These are some things about my life and personal experience. Have a nice day!
